Annual awards celebrate the most influential leaders in the boardroom and corporate governance community
LAKE MARY, FL (October 16, 2024) – The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) today announced Anthony Pugliese, President and CEO, has been named one of the most influential leaders in corporate governance by the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) as part of their 2024 NACD Directorship 100™ Awards.
The NACD Directorship 100™ Awards celebrates and recognizes the most influential directors and leaders in the corporate governance community who have demonstrated excellence in the boardroom through innovation, courage, and integrity. This is the second consecutive year Pugliese has been named to the annual list, alongside esteemed honorees and executives from Vanguard, Grant Thornton, Protiviti, KPMG, PWC, Deloitte, and Accenture, among others.
“On behalf of The IIA’s Global Board, we’re excited to celebrate this well-deserved recognition with Anthony,” said Terry Grafenstine, Chair of The IIA’s Global Board of Directors. “As President and CEO, Anthony has demonstrated a commitment to strengthening the relationship between internal auditors and boards of directors. Under his leadership, The IIA has spearheaded several ambitious initiatives, including original global research and education and training programs, to ensure internal auditors continue to serve as a trusted, independent resource to the organizations they serve.”
Earlier this year, The IIA launched the Vision 2035 research project which explored the growing need for internal audit to adopt a more advisory role to boards and directors. The IIA’s New Global Internal Audit Standards, effective in 2025, are designed to help internal audit functions optimize performance and enhance their ability to serve as a strategic partner to boards and senior management.
Nominees for the Directorship 100™ Awards are peer-selected and reviewed by the NACD board in accordance with established NACD principles and standards. The award criteria place a strong emphasis on commitment to advancing governance standards through cross-industry collaboration and working with boards and directors to contribute governance expertise and advisory services.
"This year’s recipients are creating lasting change within the boardroom and beyond. We congratulate their forward-thinking leadership and unwavering dedication to driving positive transformation in their industries and communities,” says NACD president and CEO Peter Gleason.
The 2024 honorees will be featured in NACD Directorship® magazine’s annual list of the Most Influential People in Boardrooms and Corporate Governance. View more information on the annual NACD Directorship 100 and to learn more about this year’s honorees.
