The Institute of Internal Auditors Welcomes Cameroon to its Global Federation

News Release The IIA Apr 15, 2024

Internal Audit Association now has 117 international institutes.

LAKE MARY, Fla. (April 15, 2024) — The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) – the internal audit profession’s leader in standards, certifications, education, research, and technical guidance worldwide – today announced the approval of Cameroon as the latest institute to join its global federation, further expanding its international footprint and extensive reach.

As an approved institute, Cameroon now has a legal framework to support internal auditors in its region while operating under the full scope of The IIA’s Standards. In addition, they will have the ability to collaborate with local partners to develop and deliver important training for public and private sector internal auditors who wish to pursue internal audit designations, including Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®) and Internal Audit Practitioner.

“On behalf of The IIA, I am excited to welcome Cameroon to our growing global network of institutes,” said Anthony Pugliese, CIA, CPA, CGMA, CITP, President and CEO of The Institute of Internal Auditors. “As the internal audit profession continues to grow and evolve, we take great pride in providing institutes with a wide range of professional guidance, tools, and resources to help drive deeper engagement and add value as we work to lead the profession into the future.”

Cameroon joins The IIA at an exciting time as the profession begins to implement the updated Global Internal Audit StandardsTM, which are designed to optimize internal audit performance across all industries by providing a comprehensive and accessible guide to internal audit principles and requirements. The new Standards were released earlier this year and go into effect in January 2025.

To join The IIA, institutes are required to develop an organizational foundation and undergo an extensive preparation process, including demonstrating sustainable strategic plans, a commitment to ethical practices, and strong governance and compliance initiatives. IIA-Cameroon will be headquartered in Douala, Cameroon and serve the internal audit profession in their region.

With the addition of IIA-Cameroon, The IIA’s 245,000 members are now supported by a global network of 117 international institutes, which collectively represent more than 170 countries and territories.
