Welcome to the IIA San Gabriel Valley Chapter

The San Gabriel Valley Chapter membership includes internal auditors and management from a variety of industries and organizations including healthcare, finance/banking, utilities, transportation, public accounting, and education. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the Internal Auditing profession. We encourage everyone to achieve Certified Internal Auditor status. The Chapter serves our members in internal auditing, governance, and internal control, IT audit, education, and security. Our goal is to provide a balanced program of continuing education, and opportunities to meet fellow professionals.

Chapter Officers

As I reflect on this past fiscal year, it has been a privilege to serve as President of the IIA San Gabriel Valley Chapter. The role has been exciting, challenging, and rewarding all at the same time. Connecting with the selfless leaders who volunteer their time and talents has been one of my treasures. It’s the spirit of camaraderie and shared commitment that continues to make our chapter such a strong community.

This year, I am proud of the diverse educational offerings we delivered to our members. Our webinars provided valuable insights into the evolving audit profession, including how to remain agile within the audit process and how AI is changing the risk landscape. We also heard real-life cautionary stories from professionals exploring common workplace pitfalls, giving members practical takeaways to apply in their own roles. Our programming was further strengthened by partnerships with local chapters across Southern California, allowing us to expand our reach and deepen relationships across the profession.

At Leadership Academy, we learned important updates to chapter governance and received an exciting surprise. Our chapter was recognized as one of the chapters setting the standard for chapter advocacy excellence for holding repeated engagements with Members of Congress. We also learned about changes to the chapter achievement point system, as The IIA moves away from the traditional reporting mechanism and asks chapters to develop their own strategic plans for the chapter year. This shift is intended to help chapters leverage their unique strengths while reducing the administrative burden associated with the annual chapter reporting.

This year also gave us the opportunity to celebrate a long-sought achievement: our chapter reaching Ruby status. Thank you to all of the volunteers whose hard work helped us reach this milestone. It was especially meaningful to celebrate in person during our Internal Audit Awareness Month event at Topgolf Montebello, where chapter leaders and members gathered to enjoy each other’s company and celebrate the value of our profession.

As we look ahead, our focus remains clear: to serve our members, support the profession, and strengthen our volunteer community. Communities like ours are rare, and I encourage all members to stay engaged and say “yes” to that next volunteer opportunity.
