LAKE MARY, FL (March 23, 2026) – Anthony J. Pugliese, CIA, CPA, CGMA, CITP, President and Chief Executive Officer of  The Institute of Internal Auditors (The IIA), released the following statement after the publication of the White House National Artificial Intelligence Legislative Framework:

“The White House’s National Artificial Intelligence Legislative Framework marks a meaningful step forward in establishing clear and consistent artificial intelligence (AI) policy in the United States.

“As the organization representing internal audit professionals, The Institute of Internal Auditors (The IIA) welcomes the Administration’s call for Congress to advance comprehensive federal AI legislation and strongly urges that robust governance and assurance mechanisms be embedded throughout the legislative process.

“Private-sector solutions, including independent assurance functions, provide the oversight infrastructure necessary to help ensure AI systems operate with transparency, accountability, and integrity.

“Internal auditors are uniquely positioned to provide technical assistance in the development of policies and procedures that advance the governance and oversight objectives reflected in the legislative framework.

“The IIA looks forward to engaging with the White House and bipartisan congressional leaders to help ensure these critical assurance processes are fully integrated into future AI legislation.”
