The San Diego Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) serves the San Diego Metropolitan area. The Chapter has approximately 500 members.
The San Diego Chapter is located in southern California on the Mexican border. We have a very active chapter of approximately 500 members performing internal audit in a very wide variety of businesses in the local area. The chapter conducts luncheon meetings and/or local audit related seminars between September and May to provide our members with current training. The home page always has a listing of the next training event, so please come joint us and learn how you can participate as an internal auditor and a member of the chapter.
The officers and governors/committee members of the San Diego Chapter appreciate your visit to our web site. We would like to have your input to help us develop the plan that most effectively meets the needs of the audit community in San Diego. Please pass your comments, suggestions, and most importantly, your offers of assistance, to the appropriate person as listed. Participation in chapter governance is a way to meet new people, learn new skills, provide a service to the audit community, and expand your personal network. Active participation can also count towards continuing education requirements for Certified Internal Auditors.
We are pleased to be a 2023 Building Awareness Champion!
During Internal Audit Awareness Month in May, we shared our passion for internal auditing, promoting the profession through a variety of events and campaigns designed to inform and engage, raise awareness, and help stakeholders understand the value of internal audit in their organizations.

The 2021‐22 Chapter year started on June 1st and I am honored to once again to be the President of the IIA San Diego Chapter, replacing the leadership of our outgoing President, Kathleen Medlin. I want to start the year by thanking Kathleen for her hard work and dedication to the San Diego Chapter and Internal audit profession. She will now serve as the San Diego Chapters District Representative. I also want to thank all of our volunteers, as this time has been a challenge, personally and professionally for many.
As this pandemic continues, I want the IIA San Diego members to know that we are dedicated to serve you and provide the necessary guidance and training that is needed. This is a challenging time for organizations and Internal Audit departments in providing value to their organization. This year’s theme is “Internal Audit: Being a Trusted Advisor”. How can we add value to the organization by having an agile audit plan and provide more advisory services during this time of change.
Want to become a volunteer? We have many volunteer opportunities within the IIA San Diego Chapter. All of our events and operations of the Chapter are completed by a dedicated team of volunteers. Many benefits are included in being a volunteer, including networking, meeting new people, promoting the internal audit profession, obtaining CPEs while volunteering, and having fun along the way!
Are you a CIA? Now is the best time to conquer that goal before the end of the year. We have Chapter discounts for the IIA Learning System study material and can provide you with more member services to help with your journey in becoming a CIA.
If interested in becoming a volunteer or Chapter discounts on CIA study material, please reach out to us at our chapter's email. Please visit our Chapter website at our website to view upcoming IIA trainings, job opportunities, and other member services.
Our chapter received a Platinum CAP certification during 2020.
Membership means access to our standards, guidance, networking, opportunities, and savings on world-class training.
