Tshepo Mofokeng

Tshepo Mofokeng is the 2026-27 Director, Global Research on The IIA’s Global Board of Directors. He previously served as the 2025-26 Director, Global Services on the Board and Chair of the Board of Directors with IIA South Africa (2021-2024).

Tshepo is the Chief Audit Executive (CAE) at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University in South Africa. He is a renowned advisor and change agent, having begun his career at PwC and has since held audit director roles, in addition to previously serving as CAE at the Department of Mineral and Energy. He was also a Partner and Director for Internal Audit, Governance, and Risk, as well as Chief Risk Officer at SekelaXabiso, a South Africa-based firm.

Tshepo is a seasoned risk and audit executive with more than 25 years of experience and is widely recognized for his ability to transform underperforming internal audit functions. He brings deep expertise in auditing, risk management, financial management, financial reporting, and corporate governance. Throughout his career, he has successfully led and managed audits across a broad range of organizations, including private companies, NGOs, government departments, state-owned entities, and municipalities.

Tshepo is currently Chair of the Audit Committee of the Department of Employment and Labour. Prior to this role, he served as Chair of the National Radioactive Waste Disposal Institute and the Leadership Academy for Guardians of Governance, and has held roles on other audit committees and boards.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Accountancy from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. He is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), holds the Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), and is a Chartered Accountant (CA) in South Africa.
