Hiroshi Naka

Hiroshi Naka is the 2026-27 Director, Professional Standards on The IIA’s Global Board of Directors and previously served as the Board’s 2025-26 Director, Audit Committee.

Hiroshi has 40 years of experience in financial systems, international finance, anti-money laundering and terrorist financing, economic sanctions, ESG investments, sustainable development goals, risk management, and compliance.

He joined the Ministry of Finance in 1983 and retired in 2018. He served as Vice President and Auditor General of the World Bank Group from 2014 to 2018, where he conducted audits of operational strategies and key organizational functions.

Hiroshi is currently a Professor at the School of Policy Studies at Kwansei Gakuin University. His current research on strengthening internal audit functions in Japan was motivated by the significant differences in internal audit practices he observed at World Bank Group, where strategy review is a central focus of internal auditors. He has also researched ‘Positive Impact Disclosure and Auditing for the Evolution of ESG Investment.’ Based on his research and experience, he has made a firm commitment to supporting the successful implementation of The IIA’s strategic plan.

Hiroshi holds an LL.B. from Kyoto University’s Faculty of Law and is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).
