The IIA Welcomes Georgia as the Newest National Institute in Its Global Federation

Expansion strengthens local engagement, broadens access to Global Internal Audit Standards and certifications

LAKE MARY, Fla. (July 28, 2025) — The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) today announced that Georgia has joined its global federation as the newest National Institute, marking a significant step in strengthening international collaboration and advancing the internal audit profession worldwide.

As an approved National Institute, IIA-Georgia now has the legal framework to support internal auditors across the region. They can also collaborate with local stakeholders to deliver training and professional development programs for public and private sector auditors, including pathways to globally recognized certifications such as the Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®) and others.

“On behalf of The IIA, I am pleased to welcome Georgia to our expanding global network of National Institutes,” said Anthony Pugliese, CIA, CPA, CGMA, CITP, President and CEO of The Institute of Internal Auditors. “As the internal audit profession continues to evolve, being part of this network provides members with access to the resources, guidance, and tools needed to navigate today’s complex environment and lead with confidence. Georgia’s inclusion strengthens our ability to support practitioners locally while advancing our shared global mission.”

Georgia joins The IIA at a pivotal time for the profession, as internal auditors around the world implement the updated Global Internal Audit StandardsTM, which took effect earlier this year. Designed to elevate performance across all sectors, the updated Standards offer a comprehensive, accessible guide for delivering high-quality internal audit services. This milestone aligns with a broader wave of transformation at The IIA, including expanded certification pathways, enhanced training programs, and deeper global collaboration to support practitioners in today’s rapidly evolving risk environment.

To join The IIA, Institutes are required to develop an organizational foundation and undergo an extensive preparation process, including demonstrating sustainable strategic plans, a commitment to ethical practices, and strong governance and compliance initiatives. IIA-Georgia is headquartered in Tbilisi, Georgia and serves the internal audit profession in their region.

With the addition of IIA-Georgia, The IIA’s 265,000 members are now supported by a global network of 117 international institutes, which collectively represent more than 170 countries and territories.
