Brad J. Monterio

Brad J. Monterio is the Executive Vice President of Learning, Licensing & Sales at The IIA, where he leads more than 50 professionals across the Member Competency & Learning (MC&L) and Global Enterprise Sales & Partnerships (GESP) teams. He oversees The IIA’s expansive portfolio of professional education, learning technologies, global events, enterprise sales, licensing, sponsorships, and commercial partnerships, delivering transformative solutions that elevate the internal audit profession worldwide.

With over 30 years of experience in accounting, audit, governance, risk, compliance, finance, and technology, Brad is recognized for turning complex challenges into growth opportunities. His early career in banking and investments sharpened his financial acumen and informs his strategic leadership today. A pioneer in XBRL and business reporting technologies, he was an early champion of sustainability and integrated reporting standards, and is known for creating new revenue streams, scaling market presence, and modernizing outdated business models.

A respected sustainability and ESG authority for more than 15 years, Brad represents The IIA on the IFRS Foundation’s Integrated Reporting & Connectivity Council (IRCC) and serves on the advisory board of the ESG Exchange. He is a frequent speaker, writer, and thought leader on technology, corporate disclosure, data governance, integrated reporting, and ESG. His long-standing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) is reflected in leadership roles at the national and international levels, helping advance equitable practices across the accounting, auditing, and actuarial communities.

Brad has also served 12 years as a Global Director on the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Board, where he chaired key committees in diversity and technology, and six years on the Casualty Actuarial Society Board. He continues to influence the profession through roles with the ACCA Technology Global Forum and the UCLA Extension Internal Audit Advisory Board and has previously served with the Integrated Reporting U.S. Working Group and the Thomson Reuters Foundation Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Board.

A graduate of Dartmouth College with a B.A. in English, Brad combines strategic insight with creativity, paring an artist’s perspective with business expertise. He is also an avid traveler, a passionate collector of art and antiques, and an advocate for innovation that keeps the internal audit profession future-ready.
